Born in 1954 in the western Turkish city of Bursa, she began her acting career in Erden Kıral’s “Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde” (Fertile Lands). In 1989, she played the lead role in Tunç Başaran’s “Uçurtmayı Vurmasınlar” (Don’t Let the Kite Fall), for which she was awarded Best Actress at the 26th Antalya Film Festival. Sürer, who won this award two more times, has appeared in over 45 feature films and numerous television series.

Her first international production was “Ayna” (The Mirror) in 1984, followed by Xavier Koller’s “Journey of Hope” (Umuda Yolculuk), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1991, as well as “Shadow of Fear” (Korkunun Karanlık Gölgesi, 1993) and “The Wound” (Yara, 1998). In recent years, she has also appeared in successful television series such as “Camdaki Kız” (The Girl at the Window) and “Aile” (The Family).
